Lost in Dubai, Found an Opportunity: A Job Seeker’s Unexpected Journey

I still remember the day when I was searching for a job, full of hope and determination. On February 10, 2023, I received a call from a company inviting me for an interview the next day. Excitement rushed through me, and I immediately began preparing. I made sure I knew the address and the best way to reach the office. I wanted everything to go smoothly, as this interview was important to me.

On February 11, the day of the interview, I woke up early, dressed professionally, and double-checked my documents. I booked a cab and confidently told the driver the address. I was relaxed, thinking I had everything under control. However, things didn’t go as planned. The driver misunderstood the address and entered the wrong location into the map. As I sat in the cab, unaware of the mistake, I was thinking about my interview, practicing answers in my mind, and imagining how things would go.

When the driver finally stopped and said, “We are here,” I stepped out, expecting to see the building I had memorized from Google Maps. But as I looked around, confusion hit me. The area seemed unfamiliar. The office building wasn’t there. I checked my phone and realized that I had been dropped at the wrong location in Dubai.

Panic started to creep in, but I took a deep breath and decided to find my way. I walked around, looking for someone who could guide me. That’s when I saw a young man standing near a café. I approached him and asked if he knew the correct address.

He was friendly and helpful. After checking the location, he explained the right way to get there. But our conversation didn’t stop there. He asked me what job I was applying for, and when I told him, he smiled and said, “Let me give you some tips.”

He then shared some valuable advice on how to handle interview questions, how to confidently present myself, and what interviewers usually look for in a candidate. His words reassured me and boosted my confidence.

As we were about to part ways, he did something unexpected—he handed me his business card and said, “I’m a manager at a real estate company. We’re also looking for new candidates. If you’re interested, you can come in for an interview with us as well.”

I was surprised and grateful. What started as a stressful mistake turned into a new opportunity. It made me realize that sometimes, when things don’t go as planned, life presents us with unexpected chances. Getting lost that day wasn’t a setback—it was a step toward something even better.

Looking back, I understand that every experience, even the ones that seem like obstacles, can lead to something positive. It taught me an important lesson: always stay open to new possibilities, because you never know where life might take you.
